 The Medical name for a nosebleed is epistaxis. The nose is a sensitive area and has more blood vessels.  Nosebleeds can be frightening, but they aren't usually a sign of anything serious and can often be treated at home. Blood flows from one or both nostrils during a nosebleed. It can be heavy or light. But it can last from a few seconds to 15 minutes or more.

Nosebleeds are caused due to changes in humidity or temperature causing the inside of the nose to become dry and cracked, common causes of nosebleeds include:

Picking your nose

Blowing your nose very hard

A minor injury to your nose



Blood thinners

Digit syndrome

Nose bleeding is quite common in children and they aren't usually taking seriously However, frequent or heavy nosebleeds may indicate more serious health problems, such as high blood pressure or a blood clotting disorder, and should be checked. Excessive bleeding over a long-lasting period of time can also lead to anaemia.

Here are the steps to stop the nosebleed:

Stay calm. Try to relax. Sit up, don’t lie down. Keep your head downside. Lean a little bit forward.  Pinch your nostrils closed for 5 to 10 minutes while you breathe through your mouth.  The pressures on the part of your nose that’s bleeding and can make the blood stop flowing.
